Baker Neighborhood Information
Creating a strong sense of community has been a major focus for Baker, featuring many youth and family-focused activities. The Baker neighborhood has also taken special care to support “green” initiatives; for example, it is currently aiming to become more pedestrian-friendly in an effort to reduce automobile traffic. These efforts seem to be paying off as one can easily walk to the Mayan Theater and new boutique shops, art galleries and restaurants that continue to spring up along the South Broadway corridor.
Real Estate Snapshot
For years, real estate experts have been calling Baker “the next Highlands” or “the next Washington Park”. This revitalization may soon be a reality as developers continue to scoop up large parcels of land on the South Broadway corridor. House flippers are rehabilitating Victorians and turning them into charming options for homebuyers. Additionally, legendary architect Curtis Fentress and developer Agatha Kessler have completed the development of the Watermark, a luxurious seven-story building complete with flats, brownstones and penthouses. Real estate prices in Baker tend to correlate with location within the neighborhood and the condition of the home.
